Module 1 - Iowa Workers’ Compensation Insurance System Overview
Learn the ins and outs of how insurance companies operate in Iowa. This module covers the technical aspects of insurance in Iowa including how insurance underwriters determine the premium employers pay and what factors drive up the cost of a workers’ compensation insurance policy.
Module 2 – Overview of the Iowa Workers’ Compensation Legal System
This module covers a general overview of the most common issues in Iowa workers’ compensation law. It is an introduction of the basic concepts including the concepts of arising out of and in the course of employment, the employer/employee relationship, and benefits under Iowa law.
Module 3 – Advanced Issues in Iowa Workers’ Compensation – Part I
This module covers in greater detail many of the general concepts in the first module. This module explores in greater detail the employer/employee relationship and all the statutory and common law exemptions from the employment relationship and workers’ compensation coverage. There is a discussion of injuries under the act, and benefits payable for both scheduled and unscheduled injuries. Other issues presented deal with the statute of limitations for claims, notice to be given by an injured worker, and the necessary forms and filings for claims.
Module 4 – Advanced Issues in Iowa Workers’ Compensation – Part II
This module also deals with the concepts of arising out of and in the course of employment as well as the statutory defenses under the act, and the defenses based on case law interpreting these concepts. There will also be a discussion of more complex injuries such as heart attacks, mental claims, and aggravations of conditions. The litigation process will also be examined along with the options for settlement of Iowa claims, and the issues related to review reopening proceedings in Iowa.
Module 5 – Recent Trend in Iowa Workers' Comepensation Law -Recorded May 2nd 2008
This live or recorded Webinar provides updated information on new Iowa Supreme Court cases, Iowa Workers’ Compensation Commissioner decisions and legislative changes. You can choose to attend the annual live session or view a recorded version at a more convenient date throughout the year to complete your IAWCS designation or keep it up-to-date.
Exam:
One exam included in the Iowa Workers' Compensation Series. It consists of 50 questions with a 90 minute time period.
You must first take the Iowa Workers' Compensation Series training modules before taking this exam. You will have one attempt to pass this exam. The pass mark is 75%.
